how does sysex message work?

Hi there,
I just got myself a pulse 2 and found a template for lemur. I played around with it but as I'm a newbie at lemur, i practically changed all the midi channels to match the channel my pulse is on. Maybe there is a easier way to go this...
What I really want to ask is how does sysex message work with lemur and the pulse2? does it need to be channel specific? Can someone explain to me or lead me to some information?
