Creating a step sequencer for Maschine

Good day gents.

Recently started using Lemur and am pretty happy with it. Got my first test templates working and all that good jazz.

The issue I'm running into that I hope someone here can help me with is that for the life of me I can't figure out how to create a step sequencer for Maschine's DAW. I can automate the macros easy, but I don't even know what questions I should be asking in order to figure out how to create a step sequencer for the DAW.

Is there an object/message combo I'm not seeing? Can someone give me quick rundown? Or maybe there's a video that could explain that to me (my google-fu hasn't been successful in this regard).

Really eager to get this thing working, but got stuck. Really looking for any help/ideas. Cheers.

I don't know machine, but I know a little about creating step sequencers on lemur.

Maybe this will help, hopefully some machine person can confirm. The objects in lemur are flexible and you can make a sequencer out of some of them in a number of ways with a little scripting. So I guess you have 2 options as far as object categories:
1. You use the 'regular' objects and make a sequencer with custom scripting
2. You use Step objects

If you are doing option 1, you have the choice of how to set up the sequencer (meaning whether you are sequencing with lemur and sending out the MIDI/OSC, OR machine is sequencing and the lemur is a control for the sequencer). This obviously depends on machine, and for me the obvious choice if you have it is to make lemur a controller for a step sequencer.

So, the question is: is Machine a software (cuz I thought machine was a hardware controller... I dunno though) that has a step sequencer? And if so, can you send OSC data and manipulate it to control the sequencer values (like in Reaktor, max, pd)?

If you answered no to either of these 2 questions, then you are making a lemur a sequencer itself (unless I am missing something about machine). In this case, you are better off just using option 2 (The step objects).

The Step objects have a well known history of being unreliable and not true to correct timing. Some have sought solutions, I dunno the results though cuz I gave up a while ago and just use Reaktor and Max as sequencers to control. But check out what people have found.. maybe some other software/hardware that can help?

To use the Step objects... search around, you'll find results. They will send midi note data to your DAW and you can apply it to your desired MIDI instrument.

hope that helps
