Inconsistent MIDI Mapping Button

Hi all,

I originally posted this question in my first post in the introductory question but have been advised to post it here instead.

Basically, my first very basic question is, how to I get consistent behaviour from the MIDI Mapping button in the Lemur Desktop Editor? Sometimes I click it and I can see what I've just done, other times it remains blank and unresponsive, please help.

Thanks

Hey lol...hello again!

Not sure what you mean inconsistent midi mapping though....I 'll just describe what I do when I design a template, then you tell me what you do differently....

Start new template in the editor....iPad is of course connected via wi-fi....

Then lets say I insert a pad or switch object and I want it mapped to midi CC...If I really need to test the mapping, I open the software Im planning to control and then use the actual iPad button to check the mapping....in some rare occasions that the midi CC wasnt received, it was actually a wi-fi connection problem which happens a bit often with my desktop machine as it is equiped with a "weak" wi-fi antenna...I discovered Im way better when testing on this machine with a via-router connection (both desktop and iPad connected to the router and internet) although this connection is said to insert bigger latency than a ad-hoc connection.

When actually using the templates on gigs I use ad hoc with my laptop and I have almost never experienced any connection drop outs.

Hi Softcore,

I've only just seen your reply here, I don't seem to be receiving any reply notification emails from here

OK, what I'm trying to do is described on page 48 of the users guide (3.1.0). It says that I can check any newly created MIDI Mappings by clicking the button in the top right of the editor interface, but when I do click that button sometimes the window that appears is blank. I will also confirm my setting by moving the control on the iPad with MIDI Monitor open on my computer, this usually shows that the setting has been made, but I'm confused as to where I'm going wrong with the method as described in the manual as this looks like it would be a more efficient way of checking any new settings.

Oh I seeeee - you refer to the MIDI mappings inspector window. OK, works here just fine.....what is your OS? Windows? Hate to say it, but some wackiness indeed appears with the editor in Windows systems. Im using Windows too and sometimes after resizing elements or tabs, the ermmmm, frames around them go nuts and hide some of the content.

Usually it just needs a restart (the editor) and it works ok then!

I'm using 0SX 10.8.5 not to worry, I'll keep on checking my work with MIDI Monitor as that seems to be the most reliable way for me right now. Thanks, Softcore.

I've almost completed my first proper template, which I'll upload to the User Library once I've ironed out a couple of minor bugs.

FWIW, if you have made the mappings in the object settings, there is absolutely no reason to double-check, they 'll surely work ... that window (that you see blank from time to time) is just a way to "inspect" all your objects' mappings without having to select them one by one - you can't even change mappings in that window...its only a "list" so to speak so you are not missing a great deal of functionality! ;)
