I struggled with my new (great working) usb- wireless ad hoc dongle for lemur on my desktop studio computer, as I could not acces the internet anymore on my dektop computer while connected to the ad hoc network. (Had to turn of the internal card in my computer to get the dongle working).
This was a bit of a bore, I need to constantly upload files to the internet in my studio. had to disconnect lemur, connect to the internet and vice versa all the time.
After some research I found a great solution for using both network cards at the same time, (for XP this is, for W7 or 8 it may be different) :
In the network settings of each connection there is a "metric" setting. This sets the priority of the cards.
(right click, status>propperties>internet protocol>properties>advanced>automatic metric "on or off").
Now if you untic "automatic metric" you can enter a number in the "Interface metric" box. Set the lemur ad-hoc dongle to 1, and the internal network card to 2.
Also set the Lemur ad hoc network to; "connect even when the network is not sending" (right click, status>propperties>wireless networks tab>select the lemur network in the list>propperties>Tick "connect to this network even when it is not sending).
The result is the lemur deamon now "sees" the dongle automaticly, as it is the first used card. I only have to connect the Ipad once to the lemur dongle now, the studio desktop computer connects automaticly. The Internet browsers on my desktop are "smart enough" to see that this is an ad hoc network without a gateway, and thus automaticly turn to the second card for internet access...
So now I can connect Cubase directly and automaticly with Lemur on ad-hoc, while also having normal internet access on my desktop, for uploading files, visiting forums , and so on, very nice..
to be clear:
The two networks are NOT connected, so the Ipad has no internet access.
Also I have no problems at all ,running Cubase 6.5 on my desktop (Q6600 so an old fart realy) at reasonable low latency (128 samples, 6msec internal latency) with HUGE projects (lots of realtime Convolution reverbs, FX, deluxe channel processing, guitaramps, recording 26 channels all at once, while dellivering 12 different realtime stereomixes to speakers, studiocans, intercom system and so on....AND both networks active, browsers open, while uploading files, etc. Cool...
Hope this helps other people too.
