Support video for USB connection is incorrect

Post by mkunoff »

Hello Liine people,

I'm loving the Lemur so far. But I need to let you know about one of the videos in your support section titled, "How do I use Lemur with USB MIDI?". http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... qZgnpJv9M4

The video shows incorrect steps to connect to the iConnect Midi. In the video where it shows how to make your midi connections in the Lemur app, the user connects to USB D1 for input and USB D2 for the output. You are telling the user to use one entire midi port for input and another entire midi port for the output. With the instructions given, this connection would never work for midi feedback. Luckily this works for the Ableton example because all you show is getting midi input to work - and the iConnect usually outputs midi from one port to all the other ports.

I can see why you chose this method, because you are addressing the physical connection on the device. Initially when I viewed the video, I thought this method was odd. Keep in mind, just like on a hardware device, there is an midi 'in' and a midi 'out' for each port.

If you are extra nice, I'll redo the video for you properly. ;) Since you guys seem to advocate this nice little device (and it is) you may want to remove that video in the meantime.

You link doesn't actually link to the video mentioned in your post - common problem linking to Youtube.

Traditionally, real MIDI hardware requires separate hardware ports for communication in or out, occasionally permitting "soft-thru" without a further (third) hardware port dedicated to passthru duties.

It's true this doesn't apply to the iConnect USB MIDI ports, however this falls out of the duplex nature of USB and isn't in fact a feature of MIDI per se.

I do agree that the videos represent some form of alternate reality though!

here's the correct link - http://youtu.be/C53FwpKy1EM

I see a lot of posts on this forum with confused users who have watched this video. Does Liine monitor these forums?
