A question before buying the iPad App (Piano-Roll)

Dear Lemur users,

For a while I have been contemplating to buy the app, but before I spend the 45€ I have a question. I would mainly use Lemur for controlling a rack-fx I use a lot and I know that the app should really work well for that purpose.

I would also like to use Lemur for controlling my DAW (Reaper) and more specifically the Piano Roll. At rehearsals with my band I'd like to be able to lay down some quick drum beats for when we're writing new material. To be honest I always found it hard to do with my MBP's trackpad and I think that being able to have my iPad on my mic-stand, would really help. Is this kind of control possible with the app?

Thanks in advance!

There are all sorts of midi keyboards for Lemur which you can incorporate on your own design and even some step sequencers which may even "free" you from your DAW's piano roll completely. Also check out the Sequencomat lite !

if you are essentially asking for a Lemur recreation of the "actual" piano roll window of your DAW, I dont really think that's possible (Griid/Cliip does this but only for Ableton Live) but in my humble opinion go for it eitherways. You wont regret buying it due to the freedom it provides for all sorts of midi stuff.

Also you may have a slight delay due to the wireless communication. Not a problem when using controllers, but I am not shure drum timing will not suffer. As I found out myself it is importent to use an ad- hoc network for the fastest and most reliable connection. ( use a usb network stick that supports " ad hoc networks" for this). Normal wireless routers ( as the one in your home connected to the internet) can give a lot of problems ( loss of connection, dropouts, delay) You can also considder buying a wired midi- interface for the ipad...

Lemur is amazing, no question about it - and it is worth buying considering what you can do with it. However, for your application I am not sure it is the optimal solution for Reaper - considering the current state of Lemur project base and the fact that you would be a new Lemur user. I'd rather look at dedicated hardware/software solutions more suited to live performance - I would definitely go for Ableton Live 9 and Push plus Liine Lemur for some additional control (for LiveControl project for Lemur when it is released). It is just me and it is more expensive - and again there is a learning curve for the new DAW but you get much more in terms of live performance. IMO it it better to get it right from the very start then to spend your time on something you will be never satisfied with. But regarding Lemur - it is a MIDI/OSC powerhouse that will grow with you and your studio - totally worth $49.
