Total Noob Questions

Hi there
I'm having trouble getting started here. I have an iphone 5 and an ipad 1 - trying to get the ad hoc wi-fi connection with the lemur app and it just keeps dropping off.
Is there any reason I can't just use the USB > iPad [or iphone] cable and connect directly?

Mac or PC? tried all the suggestions written in other topics of the forum?

Mac - Running 10.8.2, the latest versions of Lemur on all devices.
I've tried running through the forum but to no avail - certainly couldn't find out about using the iphone 5 cable [lightning] to USB although found a lot of people using midi devices - so am guessing that's a no-no.

Sorry i wasnt clear enough! I was referring to suggestions to make the WiFi work - indeed you cant use just a wired through USB connection although many users would like to see it happen.
I think its worth it to invest some time trying to make it work through WiFi though - you 'll find some standard procedures described although again some users still have troubles.
