Connection to ipad inconcistent

Post by Molloy »

Hi, I've been sieving through the forum and found some info/ help but I'm still getting really frustrated.

I seem to be able to connect ipad/ lemur app to my mbp very inconsistently, I have to create an ad hoc network everytime I want to use it. Most of the time it just wont be seen by the editor.

Is there a way I can set up an ad hoc network that will save and not disappear every time I close down? and can it be set to auto connect?

I followed a thread on here about auto connect issues that talks about the ip addresses and sub net addresses but am still unsure on how to set this up.

I really want to use this live but can't rely on it at the moment and I know I must be doing something wrong as everyone raves about how good the app is, my feelings are it would be awesome if I could always rely on it connecting.

What I do is;

create an ad hoc network, join with my ipad, launch lemur editor on mbp then launch on my ipad, connect via the connect icon on the top right of the editor and then, viola, sometimes it sees it but 80% of the time it does not. I'm totally stumped, there must be an easier way. I've followed all sorts of tutorials and also read the manual.

Am I just being very dizzy and missing something?

any help greatly appreciated

Im really not knowledgeable with Macs but i can give some advice based on my own experience with my laptop and PC.

First, it appeared to be essential for my machines to set up ad hoc network with static IPs in both the computer and the iPad.

For the side of the computer, find the Mac relevant settings that allow you to set up an ad hoc network with the following characteristics:

static IP adress: 192.168.64.1
subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

(rest of the settings which you may encounter, leave them as is)

On the side of iPad:
Once the iPad has "seen" your ad hoc go into its settings and configure so that:

static IP
IP adress: 192.168.64.2
subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

(rest of the settings, leave them as is)

Again I dont know if these will solve your problem as Im using windows and not Mac but at least its a ground to sart troubleshooting on! :)

For the rest of people who may visit this topic and use Windows:
To find the settings (on Windows side) you have to find the "adapter settings" (network and sharing -> change adapter settings -> choose your network -> right click -> properties -> select "Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP/IP v4) -> click on "properties" button

Now there, be cautious not to change the default settings as this will cause your computer to stop connecting to the Internet when desired. Instead use the "alternate settings" and insert the IP - subnet mask settings there.

(the names of windows and properties may appear slightly different - Im only making guesses as Im using a localized language on my Windows machines)

thanks so much for your reply, I'm just not sure how to set my as hoc network to a static IP, when I create it I go into network preferences and there is no where obvious that I can see where I set it to be static?
