Lemur not recognized/connecting (Ad-Hoc) in Public places?

I am a long time user of the Lemur, (since the legacy unit), and as soon as the Ipad app came out I picked it up, and it's worked fine for a long time now.

I just purchased the new Macbook Pro retina, went to setup Midi in the Daemon as usual, also setup through ad-hoc network - everything working fine... while at home.

When I went out to do a live gig this weekend, Lemur Daemon/Lemur Editor would not recognize the Ipad whatsoever. The Lemur was working perfectly and was connected even an hour before gig-time (at home).

This has never happened before, and I've set the Lemur up the traditional way (as shown in the support section with the posted youtube videos on liine.net) many times in the same club.

My only assumption is maybe this could be an issue of some form of wireless interference from there being an exorbitant amount of wifi-conections (15-20+?) in the area of the club versus at my house where there are few? Though I'll mention again, this has never happened before ever in the busiest of areas, or at the same club, and why would it, considering we're setting up an Ad-Hoc network?

I did everything the same exact way as usual, and even restarted the computer about 5 times before resorting to playing a backup DJ set on CDJ's at the club... Very dissapointing. :(

To try and troubleshoot/test - as soon as I got home, I tried connecting the lemur again in Jazz Daemon/Lemur Editor and it worked fine! I did nothing differently at the club than I did at home, and again, I'm not exactly "new" to using the Lemur/Lemur software and everything should have functioned fine, but there was just no recognition of the Lemur when I was at the club whatsoever despite trying to troubleshoot via setting up several Ad-Hoc networks on different channels, restarting the computer/lemur editor/jazz daemon numerous times, etc.

Has there been any reports of connectivity problems with detection over Ad-Hoc while in busy places with lots of wi-fi networks/traffic??

I haven't drastically changed any wifi/internet settings on my computer and my Mac is basically a brand new stock Macbook Pro Retina, and the newest version of Ipad 2 retina // newest IOS.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I don't know, but your assumption may be correct. I also had connection problems (drop-outs every 40 seconds or so) in a room in a town with the exact same setup like at home. I will go to that place in two weeks and will try to find out what the cause might be, and hopefully find a solution if there is one.

Hi Tyler
Sorry to hear you had issues, I guess I don't get out much these days to experience these things . . . .

I have forwarded this to the dev team to investigate further.
I suspect it may be do with IP address management . . .
One solution to that is to use STATIC IP's on both the computer and iPad when creating the adhoc connection.
There are details on how to do that online, elsewhere on this forum etc or I could repost here.
I am presuming previous times were with iOS 5 and perhaps the iOS 6 changes are relevant

It would be good to hear back from you how it goes under Lemur 4, or with static IPs . . .

Cheers
MM

I have new information to report:

I am confident these errors being experienced with the Lemur do indeed have something to do with problematic IP recognition/communication.

I decided to do some testing today. I drove out to a few public places, one of them being a busy parking garage in Boston. To my surprise, there were actually no Wi-Fi networks available for selection. However, the problem of the Lemur not being recognized still remained (thus disproving my theory of busy wi-fi areas causing interference), I just could NOT get the iPad to be recognized in the Lemur Editor "Connection" window.

I tried to set up things using a static IP. I'm not sure if I used the traditional way of setting one up, as I haven't needed to do so since my early 2000's PC days, but I simply went into the iPad's Ad-Hoc network settings, and changed the mode to "Static IP".

I then entered the IP address that is displayed in the "Connection" box of the Lemur Editor software into the "Static IP" area on the iPad, and Alas, it was finally recognized!!

I managed to play about a 15 minute set in the parking garage until the iPad lost connection completely with the Ad Hoc Network/Lemur Editor software. Since this has happened, I've attempted to set up numerous different Ad-Hoc Networks, with new IP's matching the one in the lemur "Connection" window, and I have had NO LUCK reconnecting the Lemur to the software after about 1 hour of trying. I'm beginning to wonder if it was just a chance success/fluke. :(

I TRULY hope that this can be fixed, as a professional musician and DJ I have been reliant on this brilliant software/hardware since the Legacy model and I cannot for the life of me find a worthy replacement for it, and certainly would not want to go back to an earlier inferior Mac computer and Legacy model Lemur...

I truly hope support and the creators can nail this down and deliver a stable version ASAP.

Macciza,

I have downloaded the newly released Lemur software and updated the App. I spent about 3 hours with it today trying to troubleshoot and get things working, but simply put: NOTHING will work properly. It just will not be recognized/connect in the Lemur editor...

While using a static IP, I can connect to the Lemur Editor maybe at a ratio of 1 in 50 tries. Once connected, the connection will drop after about 15 minutes.

Can you please inform me of your tried and tested method of getting this to work? I desperately need to get this working for an important gig in a week.

the same here, had a few Gigs this year in bigger Areas with this problem. It´s seems that the Conncetion comes up for a second and then its away forever. In my desperation i try to give static Ip but it was also no solution for a stable connection. I never solved that problem and now I have some Backup Controllers with me.
It´s really Hurts when you are in front of thousends people and this is happend...

Sections 2.3.4 and 2.3.5 (pages 10 and eleven) of the touchAble User Manual seem to offer the solution to this ongoing pantomime.

This manual says nothing in addition to the original youtube vid on "Connecting Lemur to a Mac.". My excitement for Livecontrol 2's arrival has severely pumped the breaks!

@Macciza - it still reads:
"Rock solid standard

Countless artists, from bedroom producers to major stadium-touring acts use Lemur to create and perform. Lemur software benefits from nearly 10 years of development, and has been fine-tuned to provide maximum performance on iPad. Whether you're connecting over Wi-Fi or using a hardware MIDI adaptor, Lemur gets the message across flawlessly."

on Lemur's product page, just saying... I know Apple's probably going to act with impunity with such changes but the fact that your app. is centered around functionality that essentially appears to have been axed, dang, pretty fickle!

Sorry, off my soap box, I've tried static on my Mac and iPad and no dice, haven't connected to the editor yet. Is there another work around you're still working on...? What's this I hear about a router?

Oh . . . it absolutely does.

It quite clearly states that one can (depending on vintage of OS and CPU in your iToy) connect an iDevice to a computer over the standard charging-cable and enable networking over that connection.

It also states that Bluetooth is problematic for WiFi (not in the Youtube vid or Lemur Manual IIRC, but widely known all the same).

You must have missed all that? (Unless the touchAble manual has changed in the few weeks since I posted the link.)
