Control of rewired instruments using Lemur

Post by Corusco »

I may have missed something completely here, but I'm not seeing an easy solution for controlling a plugged-in instrument (i.e. Reaktor inside Ableton) with Lemur. Is there a way to get OSC throughput to our rewired applications without chewing it down to MIDI via the Daemon? I'm using Windows for the time being, so Logic and Ardour (native supporters of OSC) aren't options for a DAW for me. I have AL 8 and PT10, though I definitely don't see the latter being an option for this.

It seems right now that a solution might involve receiving OSC commands using something like Pure Data or Max and shuffling that information through a M4L patch that is loaded onto a track with the rewired instrument. But I don't understand rewiring protocol, so it's possible that, since Ableton doesn't do OSC natively, it wouldn't pass that information through even if it's being handled by Max. Even if this is possible, there is still the task of setting up the Max patch.

Otherwise, it looks like I'll be recording audio from my (aging) laptop running the standalones with my primary workstation. But I'd like to keep this in the box as much as possible.

Again, I may have missed something and am totally over-thinking it all.
