Ableton Live + Lemur without Max

Hi,
Considering approaches like LiveControl for TouchOSC and the TouchAble App, I was left wondering if it is still needed to have Max for Live in order to have a template as fully integrated and adaptative as MU.
Making use of the Framework classes, wouldn't it be possible to have such a template without the need for M4L (such as a port of LiveControl to Lemur), or am I just dreaming out loud?
Is there something under the hood that I should already know of?
I'd gladly help with the UI decisions and construction of the template, but I'm still a noob at scripting and even more with Python.
Cheers
