Hi everybody,
I've finally got Mu to work on my iPad
Everything works like a charm, but there's something i don't understand, about the device controls.
How do you make them work ?
cos when i select the plug in or synth i want to edit through Mu, the page stays blank. I got the folder with the lemur templates of each plug ins & synths, but i don't know if i have to load them somewhere... And in the manual, they don't say anything about that, so i guess it is supposed to be automatic... But it's not automatic on my side
Can you tell me how to make this work ?
thanks a lot!
I'd need some explainations about Mu...

Mu has a couple of device controls, but not for everything. Some can be added but I never managed to do this.
Formant+Eurorack, PPG wave 2.2, Korg MS-20, etc., EWI 4000s, QuNeo, etc., Mixbus32c, u-he, MadronaLabs, Samplemodeling, NI, etc., iPad2/4/Pro

thx Phil999.
And do you use it or no ? have you ever managed to make one of the control device work inside Mu ?

Mu is my standard controller for Ableton. I absolutely love it! But I'm a bit too busy with starting/stopping clips, syncing tempo to the drummer, and keyboard playing, than to insert effects and control them with Mu; there's also not too much space left on the iPad screen. So I rather use hardware effects. The same with the Mu mixer. It's better for me to have a motorfader controller for this task, than to 'waste' screen real estate.
But back to the devices. I'm new to Ableton, devices are effects, is that right? There are a couple of devices controllable with the standard Mu package you download from the premium content. Actually there are only few that aren't. I started to make a list, but it's not complete and I don't have it here right now. I suggest you just try it out, load one device after another and see which one is controllable with Mu and which is not.
I'll have a look at installing additional device controls, maybe I'll get it this time since I'm a bit accustomed to Max and Live.

Re: I'd need some explainations about Mu...
Thanks a lot phil.
I see now how you use it and i understand your point, iPad is not big enough to deal with everything, totally agree.
But what i don't understand is how you load the fx/synth device inside the Mu template...
I've tried to templates which were given with Mu, they all work on their own, but i don't find the way to make them appear & use them through the main Mu template... is there a special way to install them ? are the device controllers supposed to be recognized automatically by the M4L device ? cos maybe it is just a problem with the way i've installed the whole pack...
I'd love to use Mu inside my studio to control the plug ins, my main goal is not to use the clip launcher part... so for now, i'm stuck

Re: I'd need some explainations about Mu...
I think it's described in the Mu manual . . . but anyway, you first have to insert a device in Ableton before it can be controlled in Mu. Drag and drop a device into a track. Make sure this track is selected. Then tap on one of the two arrows top right/bottom right and select the device . . . something like that, I'm not in front of a music computer right now. I'm sure there are tutorial videos on the internet explaining in detail how to do it.
3rd party plugins aren't included in Mu of course.

Re: I'd need some explainations about Mu...
ok, i'll keep on searching... i've found a video on how to install Mu, but nothing about how to control devices through the Mu template. And the manual is pretty obscure about this too...
but thanks for your help, i'm gonna try as you say

I recommend to have a close look at the Mu interface. Push every button and see what it does. It's quite obvious.
What I was missing was that I only loaded clips, and no devices. As soon as I inserted devices I realised that there is much more in this Mu interface. It's brilliantly made, and I doubt if this forthcoming Live Control 2 will be any better.
