MKS-80 Template

Post by Puzzlegob »

Hi All,

This is my first template, so any feedback is welcome.
It's a control panel to edit the Roland MKS-80.

Version 2 is up:

-Sends/receives MIDI CC# on parameter changes, allowing for automation from non-sysex friendly DAWs (Upper tone on channel 1, Lower Tone on channel 2)

-New text dialogue showing edited parameter's full name, value and related CC#

-Able to select the MIDI channel to transmit to the MKS-80 (no longer limited to channel 1)

-Unipolar faders & inversion switched replaced by bipolar faders

-GUI is prettier!

....More changes/features to come!

Hello
many thanks for the template, it is highly functional. I do have the HW controller so I am covered, but to have both upper/lower tone available on separate windows will come in handy one day I am sure. So will the tone morph function.

Do you think there is a way to get patch info from the synth into the template? Like dumping it into lemur? It would also be great for the morphing functionality.

Anyway, it is great to have people like you and others here that share their work, I am really grateful.

cheers flo

Thanks for the thanks!

I did try to program the ability to load patches from the synth, and it kinda-almost-sorta worked.

10% of the time it worked perfectly
40% of the time it loaded half of the parameters
the other 40% it didn't work at all!

When you select a new patch or tone on the MKS-80, it spits out a long string of data that contains all the information required to recreate that patch. I wrote a script that listened for the sysex string, wrote the data to an array and set the fader positions to match the patch/tone.

I have no idea why it only worked 10% of the time. I spent days trying to figure it out, (because it is a feature I really wanted!) I might have another crack at it in the future, but my work roster is a joke at the moment - not sure when I'll next get a chance to sit down with Lemur.

Thanks Jordi!

I don't think the Alesis IO doc supports sysex messages, unless they have created an update.

I use the Line6 MIDI mobiliser, it's just a simple MIDI interface (no audio)

Hi again,
Today buyed line6 midi mobilizer II. Controls works perfect, but midi notes incoming to iPad, doesn' t go to out to gate Mks.... Can you help me?
If I start an iPad internal sequencer, mks recieve midi notes and control by lemur parameters, but I want to use it with external sequencer and keyboard.

I hope your answer.

Thanks again,

Jordi
