Abreakpoint 2...
Re: Abreakpoint 2...
I somehow managed not knowing this brilliant template. Played tonight with it and FM8, assigning the 8 balls to timbre, operator and morph parameters. Really a great template, it lets you discover new soundscapes with familiar plugins. Thank you very much!

Hi Phil!
Thanks, glad you like it, that is the main goal of this template, please feel free to share your sound experiments
Cheers,

indeed I recorded some of this FM8-ABreakpoint session, but the internet is full of such recordings.

Re: Abreakpoint 2...
does breakpoint connect to ableton or reason?
Re: Abreakpoint 2...
Hey,
it connects with any device that supports MID Note/CC messages, so, yes, it should to work

Re: Abreakpoint 2...
Awesome looks beautiful been keeping track of this for a year now! Is there some sort of max for live plug in for this or if I just punch play it should work of midi or Osc is hooked up?
Re: Abreakpoint 2...
Hey,
Just you need to run the Lemur Daemon application using target 0, it doesn't send OSC, only MIDI, there are two Lemur settings screenshots with the download, let me know if that helps,
Cheers and have fun

Re: Abreakpoint 2...
just I've asked because I would like to hear how you used the template + fm8 (I have not used that combo), but no problems.Phil999 wrote:indeed I recorded some of this FM8-ABreakpoint session, but the internet is full of such recordings.

the FM8 is, as you know, based on 6 oscillators that modulate each other. So when you change the offset or ratio of one oscillator (or operator, as it is called), the sound can dramatically change even with small inputs. Additionally there's a simple x-y morph in FM8, with one full sound preset in each corner. Like those A-B morphs in your Lemur templates. That makes the FM7/8 an ideal sound design tool, although it can easily get harsh. Most of the time the DX7 and its software emulations are used as preset synthesisers. The polished and carefully fine-tuned preset sound great. But I'm also interested in frequency modulation in general, how it can be used dynamically, with all the controls at your hand. My first experience with this was with FM7 and a Doepfer Drehbank (early MIDI controller with 64 knobs). This controller opened an entire new world, something you couldn't do with an original DX7. The Behringer BCR2000 was even better (although with 'only' 32 knobs) because of parameter feedback, and now we got Lemur for the iPad. Lemur adds a new element: it not only controls the software, it can also modulate certain parameter.
Mapping 3 or 4 controls to oscillators, 2 for x-y, and 2 or 3 for harmonics, brilliance, detune, makes the FM8 a very versatile synthesiser. With only 8 controllers. Let some of them run with Lemur, and you have a working ambient track.
Once I had a coupon, and had to choose between Absynth and FM8. It was a hard choice, but in the end it was very clear. With the FM8, I can instantly turn any preset into something ugly and strange, and then smoothly morph back into something fine-tuned, harmonic, again. Like Reaktor, FM is well suited as a Lemur target.

Hey Phil,
Thanks for sharing your experiments, then I will check that out for sure! Never used FM8 seriously, maybe is time to try it.
I use more absynth because I can to load my field recordings there, using sampler or granular engine, grain size, time, grain density so like fxs to macro controls makes some interesting stuff modulating them from abreakpoint, plus l like a lot the sorround FX part of absynth too and the factor of shaping the sound at the time with multipoint envelopes.
They're different beasts.
