I'm considering using Lemur to control my keyboard rig during live gigs.
All I really want is a bright display clearly showing the song titles for all the band's songs, such that I can simply tap the song title and have the pre-programmed midi bank/program change (maybe the occasional sysex) messages for that song sent to my rig. Right now that would just be one Yamaha Motif Rack ES sound module.
Is an iPad running Lemur the right tool to do this?
Is there an existing template that would make implementation of this functionality easier?
I would not be using any Wifi connection to a computer. I assume that I would have to use the iPad USB camera adaptor and an inexpensive USB/midi adaptor. So it would seem that I couldn't keep the iPad connected to a charger during a set... What happens if the iPad goes to sleep? Any way to prevent that from happening? If it is unavoidable, do I run the risk of having unwanted midi messages sent to my rig when I have to wake the iPad up again to select the patch for the next tune?
Thanks in advance!

Lemur for 1-touch program change on live gigs
Re: Lemur for 1-touch program change on live gigs
regarding MIDI, there is IK Multimedia's iRigMIDI. It features MIDI in and out, and an USB connector cable that you can plug into iPad's power supply. Like this you can - at least in theory - use a permanently powered iPad with MIDI cables. I say 'in theory' because it does not always work as desired at my place. It happened more than once that my iPad (with iRig) suddenly reports that there is no power supply attached, although there is. I then have to detach iRig, wait about 10 seconds until the LED's start to blink, then re-attach to the iPad. Then the power supply will work, until the next 'dropout'.
Now I use a netbook as WiFi-LAN-bridge, seems more reliable from my experience than using cables, as strange as this might sound. Usually it's the other way round.

Hi Xenophile,
Thanks for the post. I don't think there is a specific template that does this.
If you have a network adaptor on your computer i would not recommend that you go through the trouble of using a wired connection. There is no specific reason why the network should just stall and not come back, and a tiny lag does not seem like a problem for the use you are going to give Lemur.
Sending from Lemur to your synth is going to require some scripting, but sending program changes should be a matter of setting up the objects correctly.
I hope that shines some light on the matter.
Best regards,
Marino.
