I connect lemur via my home network (rather iffy)
I just watched the little mac network video and .....
can the ipad connect directly to a Mac without the need for a home network/modem ????

If the Mac is equipped with a Wi-Fi card you can connect directly without needing a router. This is called an ad-hoc connection.

Beware thoguh that the ipad does not support an encryption higher than WEP in an adhoc connection. Also you need to check your firewall settings because most likely it blocks incoming data in the adhoc network. The timing is way better in an adhoc connection but I am still unsure how secure an wep encrypted adhoc connection is.
