Garbled fonts (Windows 10, Editor 5.7)

Post by Endorfinity »

Former OSX user here.

I've installed editor in Windows 10 and unfortunately UI is borderline unusable. Some straight lines in objects are a bit distorted, but fonts are really messed up.

I've found Editor 5.4 but result is the same.

What can be done to resolve this issue please?

it is a known issue, however it does not appear in all configurations.

A solution is not straight forward, because it is not clear what causes the problem. I assume it has something to do with higher resolution screens that scale GUI's and text, but I'm not sure. The Lemur editor mostly looks good on monitor screens with HD resolution. Maybe you can try to set the display scale to 100% before launching the editor. Windows does not remember the GUI settings, they have to rearranged every time. And then, after editing, bring the display back to its original scale.

Let us know if this helps.

Thanks for your help!

No luck. After setting up custom scale setting, e.g. 101% or 125%, the fonts start to look normal but the app window, be it Lemur Daemon or Editor, grows in size so much to the point of being unusable. Bringing back original scale setting brings back same issues.

this problem started many years ago, and the former company Liine never provided a fix. I wouldn't count on Midikinetics either.

I would consider a solution with a second monitor, with 1920x1080 or higher resolution. I remember, in the days when I was working a lot with Lemur and scripting, that I had to use 'computer A' for editing, not 'computer B', because on the latter it was impossible, just like in your example where one cannot read mathematical symbols.

Could you please provide detailed specifications of your system, including your monitors and the resolutions at which you're running them? Replicating these issues has been almost impossible as they only affect a small number of users, that's largely why they've remained unresolved for so long.

Thanks!

my main DAW computer has a similar setup, and Lemur is unusable for scripting. Windows 10, GTX 1080 x2, two monitors with 1920x1080 and 1920x1200 resolution at 100% scale.

The computer that works for scripting is a laptop with 2560x1600 resolution and 150% scale. So a solution would be to get two new monitors with higher resolution, and set the scale to higher than 100%. Or use a laptop with such resolution and 150% scale.

now I see the problem with the 5.7 editor. 2560x1600 resolution and 150% scale makes it quite impossible to use.

But with the 5.4 editor it works. You can download the 5.4 version at the Midikinetics website.

Indeed. In fact, this is what 100% of efforts are devoted to at the moment. The Lemur Editor has always suffered from issues related to multiple monitor resolutions. It will take some time though because unfortunately there is no easy built-in fix, as the way fonts are rendered needs to be replaced by a totally new system, and compatibility guaranteed across iOS + macOS + Windows + Android. Thanks for your patience!
