OSC, Ipad and Ethernet through USB

Post by Guybrush »

Hello everyone,

I'm looking for a way to connect my iPad Air 2 (no sim card so no Tethering possible here) to my Macbookpro through a cable and no wifi.
I've seen this topic on the wiki :
https://liine.net/wiki/lemur/connection ... re/ios_usb

I've seen on the web this too :
https://jacobsalmela.com/2016/04/09/use ... or-iphone/
And eventually this solution :
http://redpark.com/lightning-ethernet-cable/

I would like to know if anyone have tried these kind of solution ? :
- ipad -> Lightning to USB -> USB to Ethernet -> Macbookpro
- OR : ipad -> repark ligntning to ethernet -> MacbookPro)
- OR any other solution...

My goal is play on stage with my Lemur but with cables as the WIFI Adhoc Network of my macboopro (10.10) is not at all reliable...

Thanks for any help!

Cheers!

I recommend Midimux (Studiomux). You can use the normal charging cable and communicate OSC, MIDI, and (using Studiomux) even audio between computer and several devices.
Formant+Eurorack, PPG wave 2.2, Korg MS-20, etc., EWI 4000s, QuNeo, etc., Mixbus32c, u-he, MadronaLabs, Samplemodeling, NI, etc., iPad2/4/Pro

Thanks a lot Phil999!
Midimux seems to be almost what I'm looking for... There is one last thing that seems to need the Wifi : the OSC way back from my software (Usine, a kind of MaxMsp) to the IPad/Lemur.
What I've read and tested from Midimux doesn't seem to propose any solution for that, am I wrong?
Is there anything other app doing that?
(or do I have to test the cable solution?)

here I'm not sure, but I would expect (and I seem to remember) there is OSC feedback.

I've send a message to the help center of midimux.
And they confirmed :
midmux doesn't open a Network connection between Mac and iOS device, it just mirrors existing UDP ports from iOS device to the Mac.
They told me that I have to :
set up the local host (127.0.0.1) as network adress and use lemurs incoming ports as target/send to port.
But I don't really know what it means I have to do :( ...

Ok I'm dumb : I just have to change the ip address on my software to 127.0.0.1 ... and it works perfectly : OSC in and out!!!!
I'm really happy, and it saved me a lot of money : no new iPad to buy!

I think that this solution should be referred in the wiki of Lemur as cable is really more reliable than WIFI... (and it costs nothing).

yes it's definitely a good solution. I'm very glad that we have it now.
