The Windows 7-lemur thread

Post by Mathieu »

Hi everybody,
really nice to see this new forum online
I think it would be nice to share our experiences in this thread regarding the pc world.

I'm on the point to buy the lemur application and it would be nice to know if there are issues with it or at least known problems...

What's the best way to inteconnect ipad-lemur to a pc? I know it's a real basic question but perhaps some "sytems" work better than others...
wifi?

Any comment, help, recommandation are welcome.

All the best

Mat

Hi Mathieu,

Lemur Editor should run smoothly on Windows 7.

There are several options to connect your Lemur to your PC.
- WiFi using a computer-to-computer direct connection (ad-hoc).
- USB with an adaptor such as iConnect MIDI.

For now I would recommend that you use WiFi which is quite reliable. Please refer to this video tutorial on how to connect your PC through Wi-Fi: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yEUyWZpVv0Q

Please let me know if you have any further questions and I will gladly assist you.

Cheers,
Marino.

I just got it, looks amazing but I can't seem to set up a connection with my desktop PC. The video tutorial only shows setting up an ad-hoc network but that option is not even available for me. It must be possible to connect to my existing network via my router, no? All my other apps do this fine, via RtpMIDI. Lemur Daemon does detect my iPad, everything seems fine but I can't get any MIDI messages to either Cubase or the Standalone NI apps I've tried.

Edit: I've installed LoopMIDI as well, and created a LemurPort there, which gets recognized by the Daemon, but still no luck in receiving MIDI in Cubase.

(Windows 7 64bit, Cubase 6.05, iPad1)

Thankful for any suggestions.

Thanks for the reply. I actually got it working now by setting up another port in loopMIDI. I think I did everything right the first time, no idea why it didn't work. Do you know if it should work with rtpMIDI though? Seems like the standard for most apps to connect to windows with (and uses coreMIDI).

hello Littlemachine,
cool that you were successfull in making it work properly.
Do you know why exactly now? I mean this supplementary midi port added seemes to make the difference....
any suggestions?

hello Mathieu,

no I have no idea why the first port didn't work, but creating a second one did. Maybe someone else can confirm this and explain?

LoopMIDI doesn't have no loop protection, so it simply doesn't allow any application to connect to an in or out port already configured/setup for another application. Great tool though, very reliable. Should be the same with rtpMIDI, but I have not testet it.

I'm connecting to w7 over standard wi-fi connection, without needing to do ad-hoc connection. I think this is because I have midi yoke installed on my laptop, which I'd previously installed to use with touch osc before buying lemur.
