Generic Remote question

Post by whatisvalis »

I'm trying to set-up track select and was intending on using one MIDI ch and a 1-127 velocity range for each track. My template is sending the correct velocities, but the remote always selects the first track. I'm using Max Value for velocities.

Can the generic remote not handle this, do i need to use a separate MIDI ch for each track instead?

if you mean the Generic Remote in Cubase, you can use one MIDI channel. But you must make an entry for each Cubase channel. And to control it, I think you must use different notes, not velocities.

Ah, that's a pain, was hoping not to eat up a bunch of Lemur ports.

not really. Maybe I was too short in my post. One Lemur port, one MIDI channel, just a bunch of entries in the Generic Remote. And that's controlled by a xml file, it can be as big as you wish. Even for 100+ channel projects it is not a problem.

Can I map 127 CCs per channel for one remote/Lemur port? I wasn't thinking channels for some reason, that opens things up

127 CC's and I think 127 notes, maybe more.

Phil,

If you have a few minutes can you take a look at something for me?

Included is a Cubase file with a remote set to use MIDI 4. It's a 2 way track select, the issue I'm having is as follows:

Every time I select a pad the monitor I have set-up displays the last CC sent, not the current mapping assigned to the button pressed.

Any ideas?

Cheers,

JD

must be some kind of unwanted feedback. I don't know the reason, sorry.

You probably also have observed a lag in the Cubase mixer when you select a channel from Lemur. That is something I never found out why. And it's not beautiful.

I solved this (more or less) with two devices. One Generic Remote that gives me only feedback from Cubase (the Transmit flag enabled, the Receive flag disabled), and one AlphaTrack for selecting tracks. But it should be possible to do it properly with one Generic Remote only, I just haven't found out how. I will try to find something, but I'm not sure if I can. Tried many times already.

Edit: tried it again, but I really see no way how to avoid this lag in the Cubase mixer. I really recommend to use the AlphaTrack protocol for selecting tracks.
