Mac: lemur ports do not appear in Lemur [solved]

Post by Phil999 »

just recently I discovered that all virtual MIDI ports on the Mac do not appear in Lemur. Only the virtual MIDI ports of Windows machines appear.

The connection Lemur-Mac is fine, and using Lemur with OSC works as it should. Also the editor. So it is only the MIDI that seems to be broken. And reading this post

http://forum.liine.net/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=3055

it seems it is a general problem, even with hardware ports (CoreMidi).

I run a beta version of Lemur editor/daemon, and tried to install v.4.1. The installation failed. That's another surprise, such a thing has never happened before. Maybe I'm doing something wrong? My guess is, everything is right, but the current Lemur version seems to have a bug with MIDI and Mac virtual ports and iPad CoreMidi. Although I had no connection problems with internal apps (littlemidi) and hardware (iRigMIDI).

Edit: the last sentences are probably not true. Manually installing the current Lemur solved the problem at once. See my last post. It was just that, nothing else. However, the 4.1.1 installer still fails to execute. Transferring the app files manually do the trick.

Hmm
Which 'virtual' ports? Not appearing where? In Daemon setup? Or from iPad?
Sounds like a beta issue - MIDI is usually pretty solid on Mac compared to Win

I mean daemon input/output in Mac. They should appear in Lemur, and they did. Although I don't remember when it was the last time, I mostly was using OSC for Mac and Lemur. That's why I tried to install 4.1, but as I said it failed. Stopped and removed the beta before of course. It's a bit strange, but as long as others can see the virtual ports on their Mac's it's only an isolated problem. And as long as the editor can connect to iPads it's not a big issue for me. I'm doing all my templates on the Mac so that I can test them right away on my DAW which runs on Windows.

It's a fairly old 'Mac' (hackintosh), actually only a test on an older PC, and it runs so good that I'm still using it almost every day. I'm just wondering why every thinkable network application works perfectly well, only the daemon ports won't show up. It's not logical. Must be a beta thing because I've installed them always there, forcibly, when no Windows editor was available for weeks. I'll ask the developers for further instructions, and you may delete this thread.

I was able to install 4.1.1 on a hackbook (netbook running OSX 10.5.6) and simply copied the 4.1.1 daemon to my hackintosh. Now I can connect to the hackintosh daemon with Lemur 4.1.1. Problem solved.

The editor connection (various versions) to Lemur 4.1.1 was always intact. It was just the deamon which didn't work since some time.

like I wrote in the previous post. Installed editor/daemon on another machine running OSX and manually copied the .app files to the problematic machine.

Edit: here are both files, the daemon and the editor. Version 4.1.1 for Mac. Move your current Lemur app files to a secure place, and move the files from this archive into your Application folder. These should work and be stable.

However, if you successfully have installed v.4.1.1, these files won't help you at all I guess. In this case you should try to troubleshoot your network, background processes, etc. I'm not a Mac guy, I'm afraid I can't help here.

here is the manual 5.0.1 install for Mac. For those where - like at my place - the official installer fails:

Besides, all templates with the new Canvas object can be sent and downloaded from editor to Lemur app. No crashes like with the Windows editor.
