Using Lemur with a hard wired midi connection ONLY

Post by Upright »

Hey guys,

I'm thinking about grabbing Lemur but I'd like to make sure I'm going to be able to get the most out of it with my current setup-

I'm using the Alesis I/O dock as a hard wired midi connection to my desktop DAW. I don't have any way to use the iPad wirelessly. However, I will be able to build templates using an old laptop with a wireless connection, I do not use this laptop for music at all.

My questions are-

1. Will I be limited in any way using Lemur with a hard wired connection?

2. Will the Live Control template function as expected using a hard wired midi connection or does it work best with a wireless connection

3. Are there any templates that specifically need the use a wireless connection or does Lemur function identically whether the connection is wireless or hard wired.

Thanks so much guys...this is the deciding moment for me! :D

I think I read elsewhere that Alesis io dock does not support sysex messages? If thats the case, some templates (which need sysex messages) will not work for you. Mackie Control emulations for example or Live Control 2 will not work without sysex messages.

Also, I think OSC messages are only supported wirelessly (although I could be wrong). Midi wise however, if your interface - hard wired solution doesnt block any messages, you dont lose out any functionality!

You're right, sysex messages are not supported by the I/O....I'm glad I asked. Thanks for the information. :D
