Using Lemur as a control surface with a MIDI keyboard?

Post by lemurlover2013 »

Hey all,

I was looking at using the Lemur as a control surface (for knobs, XY pads, faders, pitchbend/mod etc) with a separate MIDI keyboard to control a VST instrument.

The MIDI keyboard would control the notes and the Lemur would control the pitchbend/mod, XY pads, faders, knobs, etc) for the same MIDI channel.

Is this possible?

At least for me, until we have 10-finger pressure sensing in the iPad, using a separate MIDI controller for handling notes appears to be the only solution for this type of thing. Since the iPad won't support this (maybe in the future but not now), I thought of using a separate MIDI controller such as my Eigenharp Tau to handle the notes.

Any thoughts?

Of course its possible! DAWs (and consequently VSTs) do not discriminate the midi messages from the devices they arrive from - meaning, as long as the keys and and controls (knobs, faders, etc etc) are on the same midi channel, it doesnt matter if they come from different devices (Lemur or hardware keyboard).

For those with Logic, Blade, or Camel, I'll plug http://dawcontrol.com - it's amazing to be able to control Logic synths with a touchscreen that is setup like the GUI. The developer is very helpful and responsive as well.
