Completed my first template

Post by db73 »

Ive uploaded my first Lemur template to the Liine User Libary. Many thanks for the help I got on these forums. Couldn't have got this done without some help from you guys. Much appreciated ;)

The template is for the VK-1 Viking synth Rack Extension for Reason 6.5. Great synth but programming it with a mouse or even a MIDI controller (MPK49 in this case) was a tedious exercise. It was badly in need of some more direct control and Lemur provided this. Programming it now is a totally different experience. Fantastic ;)

Will definitely be doing some more templates for Reason devices and other software/hardware ;) Incidently I emailed support asking about Reason being in the software category. I got a reply for Nicloas of Liine saying that this has now been added ;)

Yeah Lemur sorta does this thing. ;) You look at your synths - effects with another perspective when you know that you can have everything at hand to control!!!

Absolutely. I was doing something in Reason to try out a new device I'd bought yesterday. I was using the mouse to program the Viking synth ..... Was like the dark ages! :? How I was using this thing with mouse control and how I was using it with Lemur were Worlds apart! I've said it before, but now I want to shout in from the roof tops, it's worth buying an iPad just to run Lemur. No question. If you're using software especially you NEED Lemur like you need oxygen! It's such a leap forward in controlling this stuff. IMO it can work much better than the average hardware MIDI controller. I'd set up a preset on my AKAI MPK49 to control Lemur. It was nice to have the tactile control of physical controls. But it was severely lacking in other areas were Lemur had no such difficulties. An amazing thing we have in our hands and no mistake ;)

Looks good, and God I wish we had a module that correctly utilized the Breakpoint to handle ADSR. I've been thinking awful hard about it lately but maintaining the graphical ratios for that many modifiable points is turning my brain into spaghetti right now! Encapsulating it for redistribution seems like it will take more forethought than usual as well. I've successfully used a Breakpoint to control an Attack/Release envelope before but its pretty hard wired into the template and I had no desire for sustain or decay.

Edit:

I looked at using a Breakpoint Object for the ADSR envelopes. But it didn't work very well off the bat. The Multislider did so I went with that. Luckily the CC#s for the 2 envelopes were in order! So it was easy to assign a 4 bar Multislider to each. I'm not sure how this would have worked if the CC#s were all over the place. Guess I'll cross that bridge when I come to it ..... Unless we get the breakpoint thing sorted ;)

Here's a short video demo of the Lemur template I made controlling the Viking synth in Reason;
