Newbie question: Can one object.x control another.x?

Are you able to do something like:
Fader1.x controlling Fader2.x?
I am wanting to be able to slave some objects to other objects, but I'm not seeing how to do that. I tried a script to say Fader1.x = Fader2.x but that didn't seem to work. Thanks!
