send something (ctlout) on interface change?

I want my template to send a cc# value when i change the interface. Whats the best way to do this?
Ignore me if I'm incorrect, I've only just started scripting with the lemur. But, one thing that springs to mind is to create a script within the interface that contains an init() function that runs on load.
