Win 7 Can't be Connected with Host Name

Greetings!
I have a following issue while connecting iPad 2 with the computer (win 7 home premium)...
If I use IP address the iPad connects fine, but if I use the computer (host) name, it doesn't - written like hostname.local
Using host name works on my winxp pro machine, so it must be something different with windows 7?
Using the IP address on the other hand is a bit inconvenient. So much so, that I've quite often neglected to use Lemur and done "controlling" with a mouse instead.
