Hey all,
I am currently working on an update for my Sequencomat (Midi stepsequencer in max/msp for iPad and original Lemur).
The update will be available in february and all users of full license will get a free update.
This short video gives insight into some of the new functions: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3IPlR81bXk
The video shows in the following order:
- setup CCs for program change
- using right slider to set all values
- set stepvalues, use random
- program pattern chain
- play chain and see blinking
- see feedback on synth1 template (normal midimapping)
- and overwrite it manually
Enjoy*

-----------------------------------------------------------
New features on Sequencomat v3.4:
- Program change is now transmitted via ControlChange on Controller number 129. This means you can jump the sound stepwise if you like or patternwise, which leads to some new musical opportunities. Controlling the 128 programnumbers via the MultiSlider is not the best ergonomic solution, but shrinking the range helps a bit and gives more finecontrol.
- Pattern chains (follow actions) can now be programmed total free, including iterations of the same pattern and jumps across patternbanks. Chains can be programmed on the fly during playback. Follow actions are up, down, updown, random on each 1/4, 1/2, 1, 2 or 4 bar.
- Saved patternslots are now highlighted. This feature is an ergonomic "must have" and was already integrated in v1 and v2 of Sequencomat (where pattern saving was done in Lemur, not in max), but I missed it in v3 (cause now pattern handling was done in max and I have to fiddle out a appropriate method to do so). Actually this feature was the reason I started the update.
- Patternjumping can now be done with next beat. Although I like that Sequencomat jumps pattern directly - so you can play them like an instrument - some users asked me for a function where patternjumps are done at the end of the beat. So I integrated a dropdown-menu where you can choose between direct pattern triggering or with next 1/2bar, 1bar, 2bars, 4bars.
- Next pattern to come will blink. This gives a good visual feedback for above mentioned patternchains and triggering on beat. Blinking rate responds to 8th of actual bpm.
- Shortcuts for 15 scales. You still can also define your scales totally free by entering the halftonesteps, but I added shortcuts for 15 well known scales. Scales can be defined independent for track 1-4 and 5-8. They are parts of the set (not of a pattern) and can not be changed during playback.
- 20 color themes. I expanded the available color themes for the surface a lot. Now you can switch between 20 color themes include 4 mainly grey templates and 4 user templates, that can be built individually.
Sets of Sequencomat v3.3 are compatible with new v3.4, but will miss the patlight-vector for highlighting saved slots, which can be built by saving the patterns in same slots with v3.4. For details about Sequencomat also see the complete manual (based on v3.3, will update soon) http://www.tonvibration.de/SequencomatV3.html

nicely done. What synths are suited for fast preset changes? Or is that no problem? I'm asking because I've never done such fast preset changes.Subject: Re: Sequencomat v3.4
Thanks Phil The synth I used in the video was good old Synth1 VST - still my main synth...don´t know why, but I love it!
Actually I was surprised by the fast feedback too. (More the feedback, not that it changes presets) The control template of the Synth1 is made with simple bidirectional midi... and normally Midifeedback is not as fast, what I can see if I e.g. control parameters directly with stepvalues of CC on Sequencomat (...there is feedback, but not such fast). But Midifeedback seems to work faster while using programm change. Not sure why.... if anyone has an idea....would be nice to know.
However, feedback is one thing, but I kept an eye on accurat trigggering, so preset change on step should be no problem with other synths too.

Mat: you certainly create a beast of a Lemur Sequencer. Iam really tempted to invest in this. I hope the tooth fairy will visit me to nightSubject: Re: Sequencomat v3.4
Hey alloedee, thanks! I see you are into step sequencing too... Numerology must be also a great step sequencer!
I have watched so many videos and sure would have a try, if I were on Mac
Well, I am not the tooth fairy, but I still give a 50 Euro payback if I find a video under my youtube pillow.
@ all
update is 80% done. looking foreward to release in february...

Hey ManHey alloedee,

Yeah, I been working on this template for Numerology for a while, love sequencing on the Lemur. But mine isnt so complex as yours, Iam a humble newbie in this field. But Iam beginning to learn.
Thats so great and kind of you. I will do a youtube movie right awayWell, I am not the tooth fairy, but I still give a 50 Euro payback if I find a video under my youtube pillow.
EDIT: Pyyh... I did'nt know that it would be so complicated to make a Lemur youtube video with a screen recording of what is going on in Numerology at the same time. But its coming up, I just need to fix some minor things with the template

Mat: Iam glad to annonce that my video is finished http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vagam170Yyo
Subject: Re: Sequencomat v3.4
Ummm . . . alloedee? Is that a video of Sequencomat or your Numerology template?I may be wrong here but I think Mat might have expected a video of Sequencomat 3.4 under his pillow for that cashback!
Otherwise I'm gonna buy Sequencomat 3.4 and he can expect the link to my latest lolcatz vid fairly shortly afterwards.
Subject: Re: Sequencomat v3.4
Thats a video of the Numerology templateSubject: Re: Sequencomat v3.4
Sorry dudist - editied post while you were replying.Subject: Re: Sequencomat v3.4
Clearly, I can certainly make a Sequencomat film when I get it. Now Iam about o getting the hang of this Subject: Re: Sequencomat v3.4
Nice vid tho' Subject: Re: Sequencomat v3.4
Hey alloedee, Joe Soap, nice video really! You should maybe post it also in the Numerology thread
..yup, those videos are some work! However, for a Sequencomat video you do not have to be so tutorial... I am more interested in snippets of how people work with it, especially if they are quite new to it. If you are in video mood, you can maybe shoot one with the free lite version until release of 3.4... I can give 50,- discount on full version for this too.
No credits for lol cat videos

Hey all,update 99% ready
- have ported it to iPad
- tested full and lite version parallel on iPad with 14 tracks
- tested program change parallel on different synths
works fine so far....
Also had updated the manual and finshed the colore templates:
http://www.tonvibration.de/SequencomatV3.html

During all test performance of new v3.4 was equal to lite version.
However - the bottleneck is the network communication:
I connect via my Wlan router to iPad (which isn´t the best idea anyway). If there is much traffic on that channel - based on my neighbours internet activity, I guess - it can happen that visual feedback on Lemur gets a bit sticky. If it is getting worse the udpsend object starts dropping packets. That doesn´t affect Midi triggering (as this is done by the maxpatch), but can end in a glitchy feedback. Within all my testing sessions during the last months this happened 2 times for about half an hour - then the phenomen was gone. It never happened with hardware Lemur, and on iPad it is the same with lite and full version, so it is not based on the new update. I just want to mention it here and suggest again to test with free lite version before getting full version. This should also not happen with an ad hoc network.
I will now make some final adjustments and
looking foreward to release Sequencomat v3.4 next week

Subject: Re: Sequencomat v3.4
I just stumbled upon this via youtube effect, threw you a quick write up on my site, awesome work man, can't believe you're only clocking in at 41%! Are you using Lemur to program the step sequencer as well or are you handling that through the max patch?Subject: Re: Sequencomat v3.4
Hey all,I hereby declare Sequencomat v3.4 as released.
It took a bit longer, than I thought, but I was able to fix some long term bugs...
So now you can for instance change scales during playback on the maxpatch. In previous versions that could lead to a mismatch of slider and value on notes. You had to stop the sequencer before changing scales. However, Sequencomat was never planned that way, so due to its structure it can cause short timing irregularities, but no more mismatch of slider and value. I also fixed the bpm monitor in rewire mode, that now show the tempo in rewire host, also if you change it in the DAW per mouse.
And many more little things..... so I think it was worth that time more needed.
I have sent Sequencomat v3.4 to all users that have replied to my request.
If you are a full license user that haven´t got the new v3.4, please drop me a short note.
enjoy sequencing
@ Traxus
Thanks for posting my work! You also got some nice stuff...
In version 3.4 it has become 44% Lemur memory usage (on legacy Lemur, much less on iPad).
While in Sequencomat v1 (http://liine.net/en/community/user-library/view/223/) about half of code was done on Lemur (also patterns are saved as graphical values on Lemur) and only timecritical stuff was done in max. In v2 - with expanded functions - Lemur memory rised to 79%. So as I started development of v3, I was sure I had to port as much as possible to max to reduce memory needed. Now in v3 only about 1% of code is done on Lemur: Moving containers, color coding and "clear steps"... On iPad Lemur this wouldn´t be so important but on legacy it was/is a big thing. Btw: the maxpatch of v3.4 is over 6.2 MB...by far the biggest maxpatch I have seen so far.
all the best

I just have updated the manual to the latest adjustments:
online: http://www.tonvibration.de/SequencomatV3.html
pdf: http://www.tonvibration.de/SequencomatV34_manual.pdf
New video will take some time, but for some music demonstrations you can visit my soundcloud site https://soundcloud.com/tonvibration
Especially this "pattern" series was done during beta testing of v3.4: https://soundcloud.com/tonvibration/sets/pattern34
These are direct recordings from live sessions with sequencomat, mostly using only a small number of patterns and variations. No classical song structure. In pattern 17 you hear e.g. a campfire guitar playing 4 slight variations in velocity and 1 in keynote, chained in random mode on each 4th bar. These subtile changes can bring the machine somehow to life....for me. I like that controlled random, the border between iteration and variation...however, this attempt might be a bit nerdy/special .....so it would be nice to see/hear/discuss how you use sequencomat. (Therefore I am so keen on this user videos.)
Cheers and enjoy making music
