probably one of the most asked question here. did some research here in the forum, but couldn´t find an answer.
i´m having problem to auto-connect my lemur running on ipad1 ios 5.1.1 to my mbp osx 10.6.8 lemur editor. in lemur editor on my mbp pressing LEMUR CONNECTION ( alt+c) won´t do anything, but typing-in the IP adress of my ipad manually works fine.
why is that?
how can i solve it?
it´s not really a problem to check my ipads IP and to type it in manually, but it´s pretty annoying...

I had the same problem. What are the IP addresses and subnet masks of your iPad and Macbook?
ipad 169.254.120.86
255.255.0.0
mbp
169.254.4.209:5004
255.255.255.0
255.255.0.0
mbp
169.254.4.209:5004
255.255.255.0
try with 169.254.4.86 on the iPad. I almost bet it will 'auto-connect' to the editor after that change.
just gave it a try. changed my iPad ip to static 169.254.4.86 My iPad just don´t wont appear on my lemur editors connection window. mmhhh.. strange..
sorry to hear. But that does not mean the settings are wrong. I would now follow the Apple troubleshooting guide for iPad-not-recognised-in-iTunes: reset network settings on the iPad, reboot Macbook, etc. Maybe it is just that. Good luck!
Edit: wait, I've just overseen something that might be important (in my experience it was even crucial): set your subnet mask to 255.255.255.0 on the iPad. It must work after that change!!

edit:
ipad auto-connectes like a charm to my lemur daemon while using 255.255.0.0
instead when using 255.255.255.0 not even in daemon the iPad is auto-detected
anyways, phil999, thanks a ton for your help.
first post here. nice to met you!

glad it works now. And thank you for the feedback, it seems the subnet mask is not relevant in the end? Interesting . . .
But I also get the impression even a correct setting can fail after the first change. One has to reboot one side of the connection or both, or reset and enter the same numbers again. Which makes troubleshooting very difficult. One really has to know how networks are functioning, and be sure of what one is doing. I'm not, but countless hours of trial and error finally also lead to the goal.
Another thing which comes to my mind: with iOS 5 I used subnet 255.255.0.0, with iOS I must use 255.255.255.0. Maybe this explains the situation.
